Orthodox Wedding
Orthodoxy is Georgia’s main religion, with Christianity adopted here as early as the 4th century.
The country boasts ancient churches with unique frescoes and distinctive architecture, many of which are open for Orthodox weddings.
Requirements for Orthodox Weddings:
  • Both the bride and groom must follow the Orthodox faith.
  • If one partner is not Orthodox, they must undergo Orthodox baptism

  • Fasting periods
  • The week before and after Great Lent and Christmas fast
  • In the Georgian Orthodox Church, weddings are not held on Wednesday and Friday, and in the Russian Orthodox Church, they are not held on Tuesday and Thursday

Wedding in a catholic church
Catholic parishes can be found in almost every major city in Georgia. However, weddings in Russian or English are most often held at St. Peter and Paul Church in Tbilisi. Music, such as choir performances or organ accompaniment, is also available.
Conditions for Wedding:
  • At least one partner must be Catholic
  • A “marriage license” is mandatory — this document is issued after completing a pre-marriage course at your home parish
When is Catholic wedding unavailable?
  • During Lent and Advent.
  • Weddings on Fridays are generally discouraged throughout the year

A man and a woman, both Catholics
Decorating the Church:
Decorating the altar area and the aisle leading to the altar is encouraged

Wedding in a protestant church
Protestant ceremonies can be held in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, or Batumi.
Most weddings occur at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Tbilisi, with options for outdoor ceremonies by special arrangement.
Eligibility for Protestant Weddings:
  • At least one partner must be Protestant.
  • Proof of legal marriage registration is often required
Unavailable Dates for Protestant Ceremonies:
Dates must be confirmed directly with the pastor
